Nimrod is a steel hulled catamaran that offers exvcellent value for money
The Nimrod Explorer offers a more personable experience to divers exploring the Great Barrier Reef than the other larger liveaboards. At just over 22 meters long the Nimrod takes a maximum of 18 guests who well looked after by the crew of 6 staff members who are well experienced at making sure that you get the most out of your Great Barrier Reef liveaboard.
There is no best time of year for diving on the Great Barrier Reef. Each month brings something different, from manta rays during November through April, to the coral spawn in November, to rare dwarf minke whales in June and July. Water temperatures range from 22°C in July (72°F) to 28°C in February (84°F). Due to the large selection of dive sites, we can usually avoid sites with strong currents. Underwater visibility can range from 15 metres (50 feet) to well over 30 metres (100 feet); while visibility along the Reef can vary a bit more due to rainfall and water temperature, the visibility in the Coral Sea is consistently excellent year-round.
Dives are made from the vessel itself, taking advantage of the easy-access dive platform and other on-board amenities. Entries are usually made from the dive platform, just a few centimeters/inches from the water.
The dive deck has a freshwater shower, camera table, and freshwater rinse bins for equipment. Individual gear lockers are located beneath the tank rack for easy storage of equipment. Steps access the dive platform, where two in-water ladders hang for easy access to and from the water.
The top deck of Nimrod Explorer is accessed via a set of stairs from the dive deck, and consists primarily of a canopy-covered spacious deck with table and chairs. The pilothouse and crew’s quarters can also be accessed from the upper deck.
The main deck of Nimrod Explorer consists of the expansive dive deck, equipped with individual gear lockers for each diver as well as rinse tanks for both gear and cameras, freshwater showers, and easy access into the water via two stairways extending after from each hull.
Forward of the dive deck, large doors lead into the air-conditioned main salon, which contains a dining table, several seating areas, and entertainment center.
The galley is located just forward of the salon; hallways on either side lead to the Master and Twin Staterooms (Staterooms 1 & 2), both located on the main deck and featuring side windows, forward portlights and private bathrooms. A portside staircase leads up to the pilothouse and crew’s quarters. Accessed from outside walkways along the side of the vessel, the broad, carpeted bow of Nimrod Explorer offers a quiet area for sunbathing.
Nimrod Explorer’s lower deck consists of an engine room and two passenger staterooms in each hull. On the port side, a stairway from the main salon accesses both the port engine room and Stateroom # 5, the Midship Double/Twin, with a full-size double bed, twin bed, portholes and private bathroom.
The forward V-berth quad stateroom (# 3), with storage closets, portholes and private bathroom, is located at the forward end of the port side hallway, down a set of stairs past the Master stateroom.
The V-berth stateroom can also be configured as a double stateroom with full-size double bed and twin upper bunks, for longer or specialty trips.
On the starboard side, a stairway from the main salon leads both to the starboard engine room as well as the Midship Quad (Stateroom # 6), equipped for 4 single berths and a private bathroom.
Forward from the main salon, the hallway leading past the Twin Stateroom ends in a stairway which accesses the starboard-side V-berth quad, Stateroom # 4, containing 4 V-berths, portholes, storage closets and private bathroom. This stateroom can also be configured as a double stateroom with full-size double bed and twin upper bunks.
Aboard the Nimrod Explorer, evening meals usually consist of lots of fresh vegetables, rice, pasta, chicken, beef, pork and fish. Breakfast is the usual fare of eggs, bacon, cereal, toast.
Lunches vary from soup and sandwiches to burgers, pasta, assorted salads and quiche. All meals are served in the main saloon
