Getting There Maldives    

Male is the International Airport of the Maldives

 

Due to their location in the middle of the Indian Ocean the only practical way to get to the Maldives is by air although there are an adventurous few that arrive in the Maldives on their private yachts.

 

Most Europeans travel to the Maldives on charter flighst that operate several times a week from most major European cities or connect to Male via Dubai or Doha on scheduled flights.

 

Singapore and Kuala Lumpur also have flights regularly to Male with flights from Colomdo in Sri Lanka being schedules daily.

 

A 30 day tourist visa is issued to all tourists on arrival. Tourists are required to have a confirmed booking at a resort, hotel or liveaboard for immigration clearance. Visa extensions if required can be obtained from the Department of Immigration in Male.

 

Transfer to your Resort or Liveaboard

 

The resorts that are closest to Male are normally reached by either speedboat or by Dhoni. Those that are further away are reached by Seaplane.

 

Most of the liveaboards collect guests from Male International airport however several that are based at distant atolls require either a seaplane transfer or a domestic flight.
