The purpose of the PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle Speciality Course is to familiarize divers with the skills, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and enjoyment of diving in open water with one of these fantastic underwater scooters.

Course outline

This course will enable the diver to use a DPV and how to choose the right unit, Types of vehicles, Battery safety tips, and Maintenance, Storage and Travel considerations. Other aspects covered are Dive Planning and Safety Considerations, Vehicle Failure, Runaway Motor, Pre-dive preparation, various entry considerations, Dive procedures and techniques and post dive considerations.


This course consists of two open water dives and is purely practical in application.

 

 

Course timetable

The precise time table for this course will vary dependent upon the specific logistics of the dive site being used for the course. It can normally be completed in one day.


Dive 1 consists of correct pre-dive preparation, appropriate water entry with a DPV. Snorkeling and Diving Skills specific to the correct use of a DPV, and correct post dive maintenance of the DPV, whilst under supervision.


Dive 2 will give the diver the chance to demonstrate their ability to independently plan and execute a dive using a DPV according to the procedures and safety guidelines.
