Course timetable
The course starts with your pre-course independent study of the Rescue Diver
Manual including all quizzes and Knowledge Reviews.
The Rescue Training Sessions focus on the ten rescue skills
learnt during confined or open water sessions, with an explanation
of the rationale and philosophy behind each.
The rescue skills learned during the Rescue Training Sessions form the foundation
for dive emergency management. The are put into practice in the Open Water Training Sessions.
The four dive accident scenarios in open water give student divers the opportunity to apply all these skills in a realistic
context, providing them with added learning and the Instructor an opportunity to assess their performance.
Students may complete Open Water Rescue Scenarios One and Two
after successfully completing and demonstrating mastery of all the
objectives for Knowledge Development and Rescue Training Sessions
One through Three.
Students must demonstrate mastery on all the Knowledge Development and
Rescue Training Session objectives prior to Open Water Rescue Scenarios Three
and Four.
Peformance requirements
To participate in the rescue training sessions in open water, and to participate
in the open water rescue scenarios, the student must be certified as a PADI Advanced
Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certification beyond entry level (at least
two certifications total), with proof of 20 or more logged dives documenting
experience in deep diving and underwater navigation.
Prior to Knowledge Development Presentation Two and Rescue Training Session
Two, the PADI Rescue Diver course student diver must successfully complete a
sanctioned course in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR-Primary Care) and basic
first aid (Secondary Care) within the past two years (24 months).
The EFR course that can be run in conjunction with the PADI Rescue Diver Course
will meet this requirement.
