With World Class diving available it's no wonder Thailand is such a popular dive vacation destination.
Everyone has their favourites for diving. The waters of Thailand offer a multitude of marine life. Such as the bigger things, sharks or Mantas to the smaller wonders like sea horses or nudi branch. Some of you prefer to take wide angle video or perhaps your more in to the macro pleasures.
The Andaman Sea with it’s warm and clear water is full with colours. The tropical fish life, amazing corals, all surrounded with stunning tropical island vistas. Generally during the high seasons the weather is fantastic, the beaches amazing and diving full of big and small creatures.
The Similan Islands would be the pick of most divers in Thailand. The islands are approximately 100 km northwest of Phuket and became a National Park in 1982. The Similan Islands offer you in a general package excellent visibility and amazing scenery above and below the water. With the dive sites offering you different opportunities, huge boulder formations, swim throughs, walls, drop offs, coral gardens, colourful bommies, and white white sand, above and below!
Richelieu Rock is possibly the most famous dive site in the region. Giving you the opportunity to spot some of the small stuff, making sure to keep an eye open for a passing manta or whale shark. Koh Bon and Koh Tachai are also exceptional sites for spotting the majestic manta ray, as are Hin Daeng and Hin Muang further to the south.
For the Gulf of Thailand, whilst not being able to offer the majesty of Richelieu Rock, there is still some wonderful diving to be done, such as Sail Rock. The Gulf of Thailand is afforded some protection from major oceans and that enables a number of dive sites which are able to be dived year round. The majority of the sites are closer to the island of Koh Tao, and are dived as day trips from Koh Samui. Whale sharks are also a common visitor to this area.
There are amazing rock formations, a colourful array of hard and soft corals and towering rock pinnacles to amuse your eyes. Whilst a lot of divers consider the Andaman Sea or Similan area to be a greater option there are amazing dives to be had in the Gulf of Thailand as well, and due to the difference in seasons in Thailand the Gulf of Thailand is well worth a visit!
